Hypermilers are, as stated by Wikipedia, "drivers who exceed the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimated fuel efficiency on their vehicles by modifying their driving habits".

We believe there are ways and techniques to increase the fuel economy of the vehicle we currently drive. We don't discriminate based on what vehicle people drive, rather we encourage good driving habits, maintenance, tricks and experiments to produce a more efficient automobile.

If you know anything about them then you will know that the tests the EPA uses do not represent the driving conditions of typical American. The EPA has recognized this deficiency in their tests and has changed their techniques. The new highway rating for the Prius starting in 2008 will be only 45 MPG. I have been able to max out my MPG at around 65 MPG for my trip to work, but I really don't have the patience to stick to the full method.
